Gentle Reminder - Elections April 2nd

Around KW No Comments »

Hey team,

Just a reminder that the last SOFA meeting is tomorrow in which there will be elections for the new 08/09 Executive. If you’ve been meaning to come to meetings, tomorrow’s meeting is the most important. As well, bring along friends who you could see helping out next year, the more the merrier.

As well, in addition to the ELECTIONS email sent out last week should be the revision that we are considering the Presidency to be split between two Co-Presidents. The email last week only mentioned one.

See everyone in the Lounge, April 2nd @ 12:30!

Thanks
AM

ELECTIONS - APRIL 2nd

Around KW No Comments »

Hey team, so here is some info regarding elections which will resume next meeting, APRIL 2nd @12:30. I’m excited for interest I have already heard back from, so lets continue this streak.

Positions Available:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Preperators x2 (Artery shows)
Show Organizer (was responsible for Artery openings, so usually food, beverage, although this could be merged or paired with the Artery Representative - we shall decide)
Artery Volunteer Coodinator (similar to show organizer, we shall decide)
Promotion
Design (posters, advertisements, etc)
Marketing
Year Representatives (1st to 4th)
ECH Promoter (pinning up articles, posters)
ASU Representative

Add-on positions:

Artery Representative (we can change our constitution to include this, I think it would be a good idea, we can vote for this on wednesday)

How it will work with voting is:
1. someone will nominate a person who has shown interest for a position, if they are the only one for it, then there is no need for voting.
2. If there are more than one, there is a vote off (with the nominees eyes closed) to decide.
3. Once the nominee is picked, I will motion for that person into the new position which only needs someone else to second my motion to make it concrete.
4. Then continue until the transition.

I think SOFA was successful this year, so why not make next year even better, so pass this on to people who aren’t part of SOFA and should. Feel free to email me if you have any questions/interest.

See everyone on Wednesday,
Thanks team

Meeting Minutes - March 26/08

Around KW No Comments »

Hey Team, here are the minutes:

1. ELECTIONS - NEXT (and last) MEETING - April 2nd. I’m not going to go into detail in this email, but will send out a separate one regarding executive positions and details.

2. ZAVITZ CLOSING RECEPTION: This coming Saturday 7-9 at U of G’s Zavitz Gallery in their Fine Art Department. We were thinking about meeting up at ECH and then heading out there via car pool. Let’s meet at ECH at 6:15 and then go from there. If your interested, either send me an email or just show up at ECH!

3. ARTERY THIS SUMMER: we have tentative plans about arranging a student show for the middle/late summer. The next show in April will be showcasing that Andrew Hunter’s Fine 391 AnArchaeology work. Stay tuned for details regarding both the coming show (opening) as well as the summer show.

4. FRIDGE - Katie and Jenna have looked into a smaller, more compact (and less stinky) fridge for the lounge. The price range is between 100-200. With the busyness of end of term and the upcoming summer, it seems more reasonable to look into getting this fridge in late August/September, since ECH is unused during the summer months.

5. GRADUATE SHOW - OPENING - FRIDAY MARCH 28 5-8. Hope everyone can make it out for this event! Don’t forget it’s between Render (back gallery)/Hollywood (in the hall)/ Modern Language Gallery (outside the theatre). See you then

Thanks,
AM

Hey team. Here we go:

1. Zavitz Show. Doug, Lois, and Andrew went through submissions and the following people’s work were picked:

• Christina Vanneli
• Heather Voituk
• Erica Parrot
• Scott Ireland
• Rachel Wunder
• Catherine Telford Keogh
• Elizabeth Cassidy
• Jocelyn Yiu
• Tarin Hughes
• Ruth Van Gurp
• Katie Thiel
• Matt Schust
• Jenna Stewart

Scott and I will be hanging the show this Sunday, March 23rd. We need to know if we want to have an opening (since it’s only a week), what day, and last but not least, a name for this very quick show. From discussion during the meeting, we figured out that we’ll have a CLOSING on MARCH 29th, and that the show will be called ‘FLIP’.

2. The 4th year Graduating Show is on March 28th. We are wondering if any third years would be willing to help out with food prep. Fabienne has offered so far, but we just need one more person. Please contact me if interested.

3. Jane asked me to pass on a few things at today’s meeting:
First off, the CIGI event that was held at the beginning of Fall term is continuing with their themed show. Last year was about energy and the environment, this year it will be about China. Look forward to details from Jane and probably around the building.

Secondly, the Cortena Club holds a show every year and has often had Fine Art students participate in it. It usually is held in Spring, and you don’t need to be Italian to enter. Both of these items of information were given to me by Jane, so if your interested in either, please talk to her.

4. SOFA ELECTIONS – APRIL 2nd. Please spread the word. A few people have shown their interest in it for next year already, but I hope that this list will grow.

5. PROM 2 – APRIL 12th (Saturday) Cheaper than last year, and possibly three bands (similar to last year). Anyone who would like to help can contact Andrew Guaglio (dynamiteandrew@hotmail.com).

Thanks team,
AM

Hey Team. Today had a lot of good content:

1. The Guelph Show, called Enhanced Recycling, is @ Artery and will be opening for showing today. The Opening Reception will be this FRIDAY, March 7th, from 7-9. Guelph is going to be bringing a bus load of students, about 30, on friday, so it would be great if we could come down and mingle with some fellow Fine Art students. Scott and I will be taking care of food for it, but if anyone else wants to help with that, send me an email.

2. While we’re talking about the Artery, volunteering for the following days will be covered by:

Wed: Adam
Thurs: Jenna
Fri: no sitting, OPENING
Sat: Fabienne

Mon 3-5: Scott
Tues 3-5: Corinne
Weds 3-5: Adam
Thurs 3-5: Jenna

The show is VERY SHORT, so I want to have it open as much as possible.

2. JURIED SHOW @ Zavitz. The Guelph show at Artery is juried and they did had it open for 3rd and 4th years, so I think we should continue this idea and have a juried show when UW goes to U of G’s Zavitz Gallery. I’m going to try and get Doug and Andrew Hunter to jury for it. I’m thinking submissions should be in by March 14th around there. Plans are currently tentative but stay tuned for posters around campus.

3. LOUNGE. As you can see, we have received the other vending machine for the lounge. Our next goal is to focus on a mini fridge that will go under the counter. This means that the fridge of dread smell can finally be tossed. Jenna and Katie have volunteered to look for this and we’ll have a better idea for next meeting.

4. MODEL NIGHT. March 18th from 7-10. There will probably be a $3 entrance fee. Kristina is going to spearhead this, so stay tuned for more details.

Thanks team

Hey team.

Hope everyone had a great reading week. I know this week has also been really busy as well with midterms and such, so attendence was really low.

We have about 4 meetings left in this term, surprise surprise, but I have noticed attendance has been quite low in previous weeks despite the meeting change to accommodate for more people. I think it’s important, especially for those SOFA members in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year, to try and come out for these last meetings of the term, it would also be greatly appreciated.

Here’s how this week went:

1. Guelph show is setting up this weekend. We need volunteers starting next wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, and then the following week. I’m excited to check this show out although it’s going to be a very short show due to Guelph student time constraints.

2. Vending Machines Part 1 is in the Lounge, now we are just waiting for the food one. I’m contacting the UW Food staff to figure out when they are coming.

3. I wanted to get the Lounge revamped over reading week, but I just didn’t have enough time. And with March soon approaching it doesn’t look like it will happen that next month. It may be easier to simple do it after exams, if people are still interested. We’ll discuss it over the next few weeks.

Looking forward to see you next wednesday @ 1230

Thanks team

1. Movie Night Tonight. If your feeling it, come by for 5 @ 1219!

3. Artery Sitters. If anyone could do today from 3-5, it is short notice. Other than that, next week needs sitters for wed, thurs, and fri and then the 4XL show comes down.

MOVIE NIGHT - FEB 13 2008

Around KW No Comments »

Hey SOFA,

So this week we are going to continue with the Movie Night this wednesday. I haven’t heard much input, but the movies picked will be 3:10 to Yuma (from 5-7) and Art School Confidential (from 7-9). I’m thinking this event will be low key, but still…come and support your SOFA!

Plain and simple, we aren’t going to be selling food or ask for a cover charge, so really the movie watching is FREE, but donations are readily accepted ;).

We’ll be playing them in either 1219 or the other smaller lecture room, and depending on attendence we shall see if both will be running.

Thanks team
